2017 Lend A Hand Grant Awards


Recipient of the inaugural David H. Porter Memorial Grant: SaratogaArtsFest

Support a series of exciting and dynamic evenings filled with visual and performing events at no charge to the public. This is the first year that the Community Fund has presented an organization with the David H. Porter Memorial Grant, in honor of Mr. Porter, a longtime Community Fund Advisory Committee member who passed away earlier this year. His great appreciation for the arts, along with his distinguished tenure at Skidmore College and his commitment to the enrichment of others inspired the inception of this now-annual memorial grant.


AIM Services, Inc.

Provide funding for the construction of three sandboxes for children who thrive on sensory related projects and activities and attend the weekly Friday Night Owl program.


Ballston Spa Partnership for Innovation in Education

Support the 2017 Girls’ Summit, a full-day event for 100 seventh-grade girls from Ballston Spa, including at-risk students, to empower, inspire, and inform girls to lead healthy lives and better prepare for their futures.


Dance Alliance, Inc.

Fund the MOVE Dance program, the teen outreach program of Dance Alliance that meets for a free weekly hip-hip/contemporary dance class, including the transportation for guest artists, t-shirts, and admission fees.


First Baptist Church of Ballston Spa—Summer Lunch Program

Provide nutritious lunches five days per week to low- and middle-income families that receive free- or reduced-priced lunches at school during the months of July and August.


Floydwarriors.com, Inc.

Provide cleaning services, childcare reimbursements, and supplies to make meals for individuals with cancer and their families.


Franklin Community Center

Support the food pantry, which provides healthy, balanced meals to more than 8,000 individuals annually.


Gateway House of Peace

Partially fund the purchase of a new furnace for the house, which provides a safe, comfortable, caring residence for terminally ill patients in need of a home during their final days.


Nipper Knolls Equine Center

Provide horses, equipment, and support personnel, which are used to provide equine-assisted activities to children with special needs.


Our Town Theatre Group

Fund a weeklong children’s musical theater workshop for grades two through four. The program introduces children and families to performing arts and allows children to gain experience in all aspects of theater.


Rebuilding Together Saratoga County

Provide safe home kits to 20 low-income families in Saratoga County. Kits will include smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, batteries, flashlights, fire extinguishers, and other safety items.


Saratoga Bridges

Provide funding for a local, professional artist to teach art classes to people with disabilities and others in the community. The art will be displayed at craft fairs and exhibits.


Saratoga Center for the Family

Enhance the counseling program by allowing the center to provide more counseling sessions to clients who are uninsured or underinsured and unable to afford the fees.


Saratoga Community Health Center/Saratoga Hospital

Provide funding to purchase a Portable Auto Refractor for the Health Care Center, which measures the cornea, pupillary distance, and secures a baseline for vision prescriptions.


Saratoga County Rural Preservation Company

Provide funding to make necessary repairs to the front porch of the Guardian House, which is a transitional, supportive housing program for 11 homeless female veterans.


Saratoga Sponsor-A-Scholar

Provide graphing calculators for the students, who recently began the program. The calculators are used for 10th grade Geometry class, 11th grade Trigonometry class, and the SATs.


Senior Citizens Center of Saratoga

Subsidize the bus-trip program for 57 people per trip, four trips per year, for trips to culturally stimulating locations for senior citizens.


Servants of the Word, DBA The Open Door Mission

Fund the Open Door Backpack Program, which provides nutritious meals to serves school-aged children who have little-to-no food, across 10 local schools.


Shelters of Saratoga

Fund the costs and provide basic necessities and other services to assist the individuals in moving forward and achieving their goals to attain self-sufficiency.


The Ben Osborn Memorial Fund, Inc.

Provide clothing, snacks, head lice kits, and blankets to qualifying school-aged children.


The Children’s Museum at Saratoga

Fund the construction of the newest exhibit space—the Sensory Integration Room—which will be a daily extension of the Making Connections Autism Program.


Troy Conference Geriatric Foundation, Inc., DBA The Wesley Foundation

Purchase two PT/INR Control Clinical Monitoring Machines.


Unlimited Potential

Provide funding to purchase and install a 65” smart HDTV for computer-training classes for the mentally disabled.
